How to make Vietnamese Egg Rolls- Click Here !! Makes about 20-25 egg rolls ingredients: 1 lb. ground pork shoulder 1 whole carrot shredded 1/8 inch 1 medium onion diced 1 clove garlic diced 2.5 oz. of black fungus (woodear mushrooms) 2.5 oz glass noodles 3 tbs. fish sauce 3 tsp. mushroom seasoning 3 tsp white sugar 2 tsp. scallions 1 bottle of light beer 1 pack of Lumpia brand egg roll wrappers Vegetable oil for deep-frying 1) Hydrate glass noodles and black fungus in warm water for approximately 5-10 min. After hydrating, mince the black fungus and roughly chop the glass noodle into quarters. 2) In a large mixing bowl, combine shredded carrots, diced onions, garlic, black fungus, glass noodles, fish sauce, mushroom seasoning, white sugar, and scallions with the ground pork. Mix with hands until pork mix is evenly distributed. 3) To form the egg rolls, place 1 egg roll wrapper on a clean, flat surface. Place 2 heaping tablespoons of pork filling in the top middle of the wrapper. Fold the upper portion of the wrapper over the filling and make sure to tuck the wrapper under the meat firmly. Then, fold each side over firmly and begin to roll the entire wrap. Near the end, dab the remaining wrapper with beer to help seal the egg roll. 4) Heat oil to 350 degrees and fry egg rolls for approximately 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crisp. Remove with tongs and place on paper towels to drain. 5) Serve with lettuce and fish sauce. Check out our 3rd episode and winner of FOOD2’s

I love eating these at the Vietnamese restaurants that I frequent. Could you please post the recipe for the carrot sauce that you used to dip the egg rolls with? Thank you so much for this video!

  7. sabrinamom 31. Jul, 2010 at 2:44 pm #

@TranCanCook True. . . if you are going to call it authentic use the real stuff. We really appreciate it. Americans like authentic cuisine – we are tired of the syrupy crap they pass off as Chinese, the super sweet stuff they call Korean etc. =)

How can you tell that the inside is thoroughly cooked? mine took like 10 minutes to cook and I checked the inside to make sure it was done and it looked okay but I was still worried it wasn’t done all the way. ha ha

  15. girl123interrupted 31. Jul, 2010 at 6:19 pm #

its a “lumpia wrapper” I bought mine at an asian market by my house. They come in a package and it says “lumpia wrappers” on the front.

  16. girl123interrupted 31. Jul, 2010 at 6:59 pm #

I’ve had both, I prefer the lumpia wrapper. Its crispy and you don’t have to mess with the prep of the rice paper.

I personally like the AUTHENTIC vietnamese egg roll wrap ” BANH TRANG” I don’t think it’s Authentic if your using A filipino lumpia wrap.

Thank you for the video, it was great.
one thing, the music while you where cooking, it was too loud. I could hear you, but it would have been nice had it been a tad quieter to hear you better.

    Editing god? LMAO!

I have looked into brewing Sake, doesn’t sound too difficult.

I am limited to wine and sake. Occasionally i will have a shot of tequila but can’t drink and entire bottle in one sitting like I used to…. probably why i have a stomach problem in the first place :-)

  31. 1GOD1JESUS 01. Aug, 2010 at 1:36 am #

man, you dont do things by halves do you, what a great set up, youve got me seriously thinking about brewing again.

  32. cheeptorque 01. Aug, 2010 at 2:12 am #

well….I had trouble understanding what the curved arrow on a twist top bottle meant, till one of me mates quietly informed me..

    (curved arrow:
if ya bottle top has a curved arrow on it, you have to relinquish that beverage to the person sittin on your left hand side…
well thats what he whispered into me left ear anyway?)

  35. AustDingo 01. Aug, 2010 at 3:49 am #

Once I saw it had the name Mike in it , I couldnt say nothing about the editing god that lets us humble folk call him Montara Mike. :-)
Sake?/?/?……. Now that a interesting idea, I will look into that.

Do you drink spirits or does that disagree with the crap factory as well ?? :-)

  36. AustDingo 01. Aug, 2010 at 4:12 am #

LOL… so on your list you have written ‘need a new list”.
The most time consuming part is the bottling , which I am about to start :-)

  37. AustDingo 01. Aug, 2010 at 4:27 am #

Mikes brew sells the smaller buckets and as for the alcohol, instead of 1kg of sugar use half for Mid strength and half again for light beer. :-)
Since your son is making it , he can also make ginger beer and apple cider. for his top mum

  38. AustDingo 01. Aug, 2010 at 4:57 am #

ahhh it’s not that technical. All the instructions are in the top of the tin. I just find it a bit easier for some reason :-P

  39. AustDingo 01. Aug, 2010 at 5:08 am #

Good stuff, since I am helping save money I reckon you put that money towards a plane ticket :-)

  40. AustDingo 01. Aug, 2010 at 5:17 am #

  41. montaramike 01. Aug, 2010 at 5:51 am #
