We at the Murphy-Goode Winery got to thinking about the new age of communications and we figured it was a pretty good thing. So to get going, were looking for someone (maybe you) who really knows how to use Web 2.0 and Facebook and blogs and social media and YouTube and all sorts of good stuff like that — to tell the world about our wines and the place where we live: the Sonoma County Wine Country. In exchange, were offering you a Really Goode Job — a six-month job paying 000 a month plus accommodations! We want to hire a social media whiz (your title will be Murphy-Goode Wine Country Lifestyle Correspondent) who will report on the cool lifestyle of Sonoma County Wine Country and, of course, tell people what youre learning about winemaking. Did we mention that the compensation was 000 per month Plus accommodations in a beautiful home in picturesque Healdsburg, a popular vacation destination in our neck of the woods. Working hours are flexible. And all you have to do is experience wine and good living, and then tell people about it. (Do you play Poker, or Liars Dice? Dont worry; well teach you.) You (we hope) will become part of the Murphy-Goode crew — for six great months.

Brewers Best: Oktoberfest home brewing kit final product review C- A: 4.5/5 I really like the way this looks. The color turned out exactly as I had hoped. Amber body with red and yellow edges, white fluffy yeasty head. Little CO2 nucleation. S: 1/5 It doesn’t really smell like beer, and doesn’t smell good at all. Fruit + Yeast + Alcohol – malts – hops. T: 2/5 Light hop character, dominated by fruity esters and alcohol. Malts are basically indistinguishable. Easy to drink, but no real strong notes. M: 3/5 Light bodied, crisp, nothing special. Great Lakes Christmas Ale clone home brew review A- Recipe 1lb 40L Crystal Malt 1lb wheat malt 1lb lager malt 3oz roasted barley 8oz Dingemans Belgian Special B 145L 8oz 20L Muntins Carpls Malt 7lb light malt extract 2 oz cascade hops @ 60 mins .25 oz cascade @ 30 mins 1 oz fuggles @ 30 mins 1 oz Kent Goldings @ 15 mins 1 oz fuggles 1st dryhop 1 oz cascade 2nd dryhop 2 lbs honey 2 tbs cinnamon 2 tbs ginger 2 cinnamon sticks throughout fermentation Note* Priming sugar: If you are using corn sugar, do not use more than 8 oz per 5 gal. I prefer corn sugar to cane sugar because I think that cain sugar sweetens the beer to much.

Learn how to make a sugar bottle mold with CopyFlex Food Grade Silicone available at www.MakeYourOwnMolds.com. Sugar bottles are greatly valued by cake decorators and sugar artists who use them to create sugar beer bottles and edible wine bottles for grooms cakes and birthday cakes. Filmmakers, stagecraft special effects artists and theatre prop specialists use sugar bottle molds to create breakaway glass bottles that can be safely broken over a person or object without causing injury. Isomalt or cooked sugar (also called sugar glass, candy glass, and edible glass) can be used to recreate any bottle in an edible form. This video represents a complete class covering a mold making method that is fun and easy to master. Every detail is demonstrated in a step by step progression that leaves no questions unanswered.

Where Passion and History and Great Zin merge Sausal Winery, located in beautiful Alexander Valley, is a family run affair – and has been since 1956. Leo Demostene, a second generation winemaker, purchased the Sausal Ranch – a 125 acre ranch that was planted to prunes, apples and zinfandel grapes – in 1956. The ‘old vines’ date back before 1877 and continue to produce small lots of exquisite, elegant zinfandel even today. Leo’s children, Dave, Ed, Peachie & Cindy, grew up on the ranch and helped their father expand their grape crop by planting scores of zinfandel and cabernet sauvignon. And, the rest is history – the four siblings continue to run and operate the ranch, each having their own but important role. When asked if any of them ever considered moving away or taking on another career, the answer was unanimous – “No way! Why go anywhere else? We already live in paradise! What else is there?” And that’s truly the passion that shines through their long history of winemaking. Sausal is best known for Zinfandel and has been making it way longer than all the rest. If you’re a Zin fan, Sausal produces terrific Zins’ that you don’t want to miss: a 50 year old vine Zin, a 90 year old vine Zin, and the ‘cream of the crop’ – a 130 year old vine Zin…….there are just no words that can describe this one!

This is a response video to TakeSomeAdvice who makes a subtle claim that you can’t achieve a decent head and lace from a can of Cooper’s malt extract. Clearly, from this video, a properly brewed home brew kit can produce great results, including head retention and lace. The question is, do these things really tell the story about how good the beer is? Here is the link to the FAQ where you’ll find the article on boiling the Cooper’s extract: coopers.com.au Should I boil the kit to remove break? We brew beer, malt extract and home brew worts in the same way. All worts are boiled and produce hot break, which is then removed in the whirlpool. Rather than being cooled down for fermentation, the malt extract and home brew worts are centrifuged and transferred to evaporators where all but around 20% of the water is removed. At this stage the malt extract and home brew is packaged then cools down but does not throw cold break material because the extract is too dense for it to precipitate. Once you add water, the wort becomes thin enough for the break material to precipitate. This break material is completely harmless to the brew and will settle out during fermentation. If boiled the break material may clump together giving the impression, incorrectly, that it is hot break. Boiling home brew (hopped malt extract) will only darken the brew and drive off hop aroma. However, if you are following a specific recipe and using additional hops, you may like to boil some of the malt …
