Welcome to the world of a national obsession and a place where people say ‘orf’ instead of ‘off’. Tea connoisseurs will benefit from the six golden tips for making the perfect cuppa, as well as countless other handy hints (never store your tea next to cheese, for example). There’s an assessment of the pros and cons of various teapots and words of wisdom about the tea bush itself. Slightly grotesque methods for producing tea en masse are demonstrated – it was wartime, after all – and tea had to be produced by the oceanful. As such, there are some top tips for cleaning that hard-to-reach tap in your tea urn. Remember: “a dirty tap means dirty tea”. If any short was made for an MST3K riff, it’s this one. I’m glad the lady taking the quiz at the end got all the questions right, otherwise “Mama” looked like she could have done some damage.

They would have been horrified at my tea-making. First fill electric kettle with water and turn on to boil. Next, put PG Tips teabag into cup and fill with boiled water. Wait about 4 minutes, then take out teabag and add a little milk. Perfect!:)

I have never so much as drank a sip of coffee in my life. I always warm the pot and the cup and I always use boiling water, I pour the kettle just as the it is at the peak of boiling. I think I’ll have a cup right now!

@bmtimv This is so true. Have you ever had green tea made with boiling water? Very bitter. I live in Taiwan, and just love the green and oolong teas.

Brilliant. I remember the lovely ladies of the WVS coming to the shelters the morning after a raid. One can’t imagine how nice a cup of tea was, how welcoming it was when one had been in the shelter over night during an air-raid
